North Providence World War II Veteran Celebrates 101st Birthday

World War II veteran Roger Desjardins celebrated his 101st birthday in North Providence surrounded by family, friends, and community leaders who gathered to honor his remarkable life and military service. A former U.S. Army machine gunner, Desjardins was recognized not only for his sacrifice during the war but also for his lifelong community involvement and enduring spirit. The celebration included a $10,000 donation to the Rhode Island Honor Flight made in his name by Mayor Charles Lombardi, along with a visit from U.S. Sen. Jack Reed, who presented Desjardins with a challenge coin and shared a lighthearted moment with the centenarian.
